Start with
confidence.

Everything required to boot, configure and troubleshoot MohandesOS.

01

Quick start

Download the ISO, verify the checksum and write it to a USB drive using Rufus or balenaEtcher.

Windows PowerShell checksum

Get-FileHash .\MohandesOS-1.0-amd64.iso -Algorithm SHA256

Linux checksum

sha256sum MohandesOS-1.0-amd64.iso
02

Optional persistence

Persistence stores your files and settings outside the read-only live image. Use a dedicated partition labeled persistence and create a persistence.conf file at its root.

echo "/ union" | sudo tee /mnt/persistence/persistence.conf

For private portable storage, create the persistence partition inside LUKS encryption.

03

Secure Boot

MohandesOS includes signed UEFI boot components where available. Proprietary NVIDIA kernel modules may require enrolling a Machine Owner Key during startup.

  • Leave Secure Boot enabled for standard Intel/AMD graphics.
  • Follow the on-screen MOK enrollment guide when proprietary NVIDIA modules are enabled.
  • Keep the password used during key enrollment temporarily available.
04

First-start setup

The welcome experience asks for your username, password, language, keyboard, time zone and computer name. After setup, MohandesOS switches to the branded login screen without a system reboot.

05

Troubleshooting

Black screen after boot

Use the Advanced Options menu and select safe graphics, or temporarily add nomodeset to the boot parameters.

Slow application startup

Use a USB 3 drive or external SSD. Live systems read compressed data continuously, so storage speed matters significantly.

Login manager issue

Ctrl + Alt + F2 sudo systemctl restart sddm
